MAY
May 3, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Friday night) Eddie Elliott - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series Being a troubadour suits
all the things that I love about life. I love to examine life and people and
nature. Traveling makes me feel alive because everything is so fresh and new.
Meeting new people, being a part of their lives through music, and watching
their lives evolve over the years brings deep satisfaction. Then, there is the
doing of the thing. Playing live brings out an intense attention to detail and
being in the moment. By being with a song and putting all my energy into it, I
can forget about everything else but attempting perfection. Music is a vehicle
for experiencing perfection. We all know when a note is out of place and we all
know when it is just right. I never have really considered myself a musician. A
musician is someone who can play anything, can read music, practices all the
time, and knows what key he is playing in. I have always thought of myself as a
songwriter that has a need and desire to create and express. I am always in
search of magical moments in life and playing music has allowed me so many
heightened experiences. I search for intellectual and emotional truths in my
songs. Many of my songs combine nostalgia, hope, and soul to help us connect to
something real inside. I grew up outside of DC in Maryland, lived in LA for a
while, and now reside in Scottsdale, AZ with my wife and sons and dog sake. I'd
like to think we are a pretty happy clan that hangs around the house most of
the time. But, the energy soon gets pent up and longs for jumping in the van
and exploring open roads once again. Exploring roads and searching for
perfection in a song or cloud or a mountain stream. Other players over the
years have included Jeremiah, my brother Dominic, Dave Cates, Eric Douglas,
Simeon Flick, Randy Ruff, Mark Tipton and randomly many more. I've opened for
some stellar players over the years like Shawn Mullins, David Wilcox, Tab
Benoit, John Gorka, John Corbett, Willie Porter, Richie Havens.....and have
played in many little joints, backyards, coffeehouses, casinos, dives, hotels,
and on streets all over the great USA! Overall, I hope you are one of the
people that can take my songs into your life and enjoy them to the fullest. If
you're not, we can probably find common ground elsewhere.... even if its just
the love of breathing itself. Life is good. January 2010 Eddie $10 toward the artist with $5 glasses of wine, $5 for (3) tacos
May 10, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Friday night) Tyler Stenson - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series Born
in Lander, WY and raised in Oregon, Tyler Stenson is a bold, lyric-first
singer/songwriter in Portland that draws a profound influence from his roots in
the humble West. Raised a vocalist by his musical mother and a perfectionist by
his father the architect, Stenson's unique brand of "Elegant Folk"
music is the fitting result of his upbringing -- wildly creative but ever
wrangled by his maniacal attention to detail and the desire to design things
differently. "As
long as there has been a song, I've felt it in my bones. It was a gift from my
dear mother and her father who passed on -- yes, a long line of the Music
Makers and of Soldiers for the Muse." Tyler
Stenson -- Fight 'til Dying Day As
front man and songwriter for his former bands Lander and Rhetoric Tuesday,
Stenson played the Northwest college circuit throughout the early 2000s with
great success. However, often unfulfilled by the beer soaked bars and bent upon
highlighting his poignant lyrics that were too often shadowed by noise, he soon
put band-oriented rock-n-roll to rest and tackled the burgeoning Portland scene
in 2007 as a solo artist -- it was the best decision he would ever make. Now,
twice named the "Songwriter of the Year" by the Portland Songwriters
Association (2007 and 2008) and "Best Male Artist" at the 2011
Portland Music Awards, Stenson's authentic ways have been well received, as
he's become one of the premiere singer/songwriters in the Northwest. In fact, having
posted near-capacity numbers at some of Portland's finest venues including The
Aladdin Theater,Mississippi Studios, The Alberta Rose Theatre, Doug Fir Lounge
and Lola's Room at The Crystal Ballroom, he has since been invited to perform
on OPB's Live Wire! Radio Show, has opened for Chris Isaak, John Popper,
Matisyahu, Fuel, Guster (and many others) and out of nearly 4,000 bands was
recently hand-selected by Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) and Ryan Spaulding
(rslblog) to perform at The Outlaw Roadshow showcase at SxSW 2013 in Austin,
TX. While
Stenson has achieved much in the local trenches, he's also a contender on the
national stage. With songs landed on two separate national Chevrolet
commercials and a handful of others placed on Internationally televised shows,
he's toured the four corners of America, as well as, spent nearly two years as
a singer/songwriter in Nashville, learning from the best -- all the while
touring and building. Now
back in Portland via Tennessee, Stenson continues to press forward with a
broadened sense of self and an unshakable belief in his own abilities to plot
his own path. A fearless recording artist, he just self-released his 10th
album, Some Days Im a Lion, on October 19, 2012 in front of a sold-out crowd
at the legendary Aladdin Theater. In
an age where thoughtful lyric has taken a backseat to hyper production, Stenson
has learned one thing through his decade of experiences and performances at
notable venues such as the legendaryBluebird Cafe in Nashville and The Hotel
Cafe in Los Angeles: Lyric is King -- Stenson's music is just that -- words
paired with notes that sum up the human existence and endlessly inspire the
train of followers that find a piece of themselves in the sincerity of his
words. "Don't
whisper softly the things that you want loudly to be." Tyler
Stenson -- Whistle Stop $10 toward the artist with $5 glasses of wine, $5 for (3) tacos
May 11, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Saturday night) I See Hawks in LA - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series Known for their psychedelic electric layering over
country and folk music forms, the Hawks have gone back to basics on New Kind
of Lonely, cutting 13 songs on acoustic guitars and upright and electric bass,
standing in a circle around some nice German microphones. Overdubs of the
trademark Hawks vocal harmonies, some dobro, and Gabe Witchers stellar fiddle
complete the sparse, haunting sound. The Hawks have been known for their lyrical celebrations
of earth and its imperiled ecosphere, odes to the endless highway, and
withering social commentary, but on this CD death and loss, in very personal
terms, weave into almost every song, even the hard charging barn dance numbers. In reaching back to pre-electric traditions, the Hawks seem to have tapped into the mortality that looms in the work of Hank Williams, The Stanley Brothers, and the Carter Family, far from the feel-good suburbiana of today's Nashville songwriting. Dark times do need some kind of acknowledgement. I See Hawks in L.A. have taken this on. $10 toward the artist with $5 glasses of wine, $5 for (3) tacos

May 25, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Saturday night) Owen Plant - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series Jamaican-born troubadour Owen Plant lives in Northern
California where he writes and performs his music and from whence he tours and
peers out at the world. He refers to his own style as Jamaican-Born, California
Folk. It is reminiscent of introspective singer/songwriters from the 70s and
contemporary acoustic artists but also incorporates his Caribbean roots on many
songs. Owens strong vocals evoke the emotional depth of Cat Stevens and the
soulful passion of Bob Marley and you can hear James Taylor, Paul Simon and
Leonard Cohen in his guitar work and writing. People who listen to artists like
Amos Lee, Ray LaMontagne, Jack Johnson or Ziggy Marley love Owens stuff. Music
fans who might consider these artists as not their thing often surprise
themselves by liking Owen anyway. His presence as a touring artist was thrown
into high gear this summer when he joined the Vans Warped Tour for a month on
the Acoustic Basement Stage. He will be on the West Coast portion of the tour
again in 2013 in addition to his constant independent meanderings. $10 toward the artist with $5 glasses of wine, $5 for (3) tacos
May 31, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Friday night) Cliff Wagner - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series Cliff Wagner & The Old
#7 are a band like nothing you have never heard. Mixing Bluegrass, Blues and
Honky Tonk in a way that has audiences on their feet. Cliff and the other
members of The Old #7 are taking American Roots Music to the next level, and
the fans are following. The Old #7 gained nation
wide exposure on FOX TVs The Next Great American Band and played to over 10
million people each week. Originally the show's judges insisted that the
general public would not accept a Bluegrass band and the Old #7 would have a
short stay on the show. They not only appeared on six of the final shows but
finished 7th out of 8,000 bands who originally tried out for the show. This was
due to the huge number of fans who showed their support each week by voting to
keep Cliff Wagner on the show. $10 toward the artist with $5 glasses of wine, $5 for (3) tacos June 1, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Saturday night) Jackie Bristow - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series At one, heartfelt and
sophisticated, Jackie Bristow combines subtle but beautiful melodies and hooks
that hypnotize the listener, demand complete surrender and then stick around
with the backbone of a real friend.
Jackie's third album, "Freedom," features her "soulful
voice accompanied by guitar with pop accessibilities and folk sensibilities." New Zealand-born Bristow
transplanted to the United States in 2005 after spending the previous 10 years
songwriting and performing in Australia.
Since coming to the US, she has been playing shows and writing continuously. She was the opening act for internationally-acclaimed
guitar legend Tommy Emmanuel ( www.tommyemmanuel.com) in February 2011. Jackie and Tommy played to sold-out theaters
across the country. Since that tour,
Jackie has been the opening act for Marc Cohn, John Oates, John Waite, Bettye
Lavette, B.J Thomas, Joe Ely, Marcia Ball, Charlie Robison, Rick Springfield,
Bob Schneider, and Jimmy Lafave. She
opened for Euge Groove, Ruthie Foster and Howard Jones in November 2012. Jackies songs have been
used repeatedly in Australian and New Zealand film and television hit shows
such as "Go Girls," "The Secret Life of Us," "Home and
Away,""Outrageous Fortune," "Shortland Street," and
"Go Big." Her original song
"This is Australia" won Tourism Australias nationwide competition in
2004 (see televised interviews after her win).
The recording, accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and video
subsequently were featured in Tourism Australia's worldwide promotional
campaigns for three years. In 2007, Air
New Zealand played "Across the World" (from the "Crazy
Love"album) for boarding passengers on its international flights. Music from her third album,
"Freedom," was programmed into rotation at 7,000 Starbucks locations
nationwide in the US. Jackie has proven to be an
artist who shows no signs of stopping.
Her live performances have captivated audiences throughout the States,
Australia and New Zealand. One reviewer of her 2011 tour opening for Tommy
Emmanuel wrote: "Opening for a musical giant like Emmanuel would seem a
daunting task, but Bristow was relaxed as her soulfully-seductive melodies
reverberated within the auditorium. Her
beautiful voice and earnest songs resonated with the audience, and they
applauded her eagerly. Near the end of
the show, Bristow joined Emmanuel on stage for an amazing duet that received a
standing ovation." (view this "Shot of Gold" performance on
YouTube here) For an in-depth article
about Jackie's colorful international career since leaving her native country
for Australia in her early 20's, entitled "Gore girl loves her crazy
life," click here. $10 toward the artist with $5 glasses of wine, $5 for (3) tacos
June 15, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Saturday night) D Henry Fenton - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series D Henry Fenton a singer-songwriter from Australia who was
born to Ralph and Joan Fenton. Henrys father was at one time a band promoter,
arranging shows for Bo Diddley and countless local, original, and
cover bands. He later urged Henry to avoid the unreliable industry
altogether. Ignoring this fatherly advice politely, Fenton surged on, finally getting his
break opening for the prominent Irish band, the Corrs. He went on to sign with
Warner Brothers/Village Roadshow for a two-single deal. One of the singles
dented the top 100. He then released his first solo album, Autumn Sweet,
recorded by early R.E.M. producer, Mitch Easter. The Sydney Morning Herald
called it a strange and magical album and was given pop rock winner status
in Rolling Stone. He went on to open for acclaimed acts including John Mayer
and Colbie Caillat. Fentons music blends Celtic, folk, pop, and rock, bringing
to mind elites like Van Morrison, the Smiths, Neil Young, the Beatles, and
Crowded House. $10 toward the artist with $5 glasses of wine, $5 for (3) tacos
June 21, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Friday night) Greg Felden - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series This is some of the best, most impacting music that Ive
heard in a very long time. The songs are very powerful I see a lot of really
good things for him in the future. Greg Felden. Remember that name. Nico
Martini, American Highway Feldens songwriting is firmly rooted in the tradition
of the great folk poets, delivered simply and truthfully and reflecting our own
pathos through his music. Kat Griffin, Americana Matinee, KCSN Radio $10 toward the artist with $5 glasses of wine, $5 for (3) tacos JULY

Roem Baur (Second act) Adam Duritz - Counting
Crows "Roem is a singer
with a ridiculous vocal range (this is increasingly rare in the music world
celebrated by today's media machine) and a troubadour's soul. He's used these
qualities and his constant touring to develop a solid following in a number of
American cities." Ryan Spaulding - Ryan's Smashing Life & Producer "The Bubbler" CBS
Steven Roth (3rd act) BRIGHT NEW MUSIC Theres
something to be said about pop music done right. For years weve endured the
endless procession of what Top 40 Radio said was right. When the machine broke
down, all of us were charged with a personal responsibility to find new music
organically to seek out new worlds Our first artist named to the 3/16 Outlaw
Roadshow is proof positive that cream does, indeed, rise to the top. Meet
STEVEN ROTH With a sound that dances on the fine line between popular music
and rock, hes got both the musical chops and the feel-good aspect to bring a
glowing pop sound to our stage in Austin. He recently supported The Who when
they played in Los Angeles. It was a good pairing, as Roths rock has a cool
1960′s feel without it being
rote or forced. Call it a glow, but coupled with the sound of a wild live set
up on stage All I can say is that Steven
Roth is a winner. Welcome to the Roadshow Steven, well see you in Texas!
July 13, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Saturday night) Mason Reed - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series Mason Reed has a story to tell. A story filled with broken hearts, bad luck, bloody concrete, rotten chances, ghosts, devils, witches, and women your mother warned you about. When you listen to his music, you can hear something special happening. His unique, soul-filled, smoky voice, and unique approach to his music is evidence that the singer-songwriter genre still has a few tricks up its sleeve, and that real Americana music hasn't been fluffed over with soft, computer-generated guitar sounds and auto-tuned pop punk vocals. $10 toward the artist with $5 glasses of wine, $5 for (3) tacos
July 20, 2013 - Standing Sun Winery: 7-10 pm (Saturday night) George Stanford - Standing Sun Wines Singer Songwriter Series George Stanford made his way to the front of the band
through the brass section, where he played trombone in every type of band he
could as a kid. Trombone proved to be a dangerous 'gateway' instrument, leading
him to the bass, guitar, keyboards, and anything else that would make noise.
These instruments led him to discover his love for singing, and the beautiful
puzzle of songwriting. He studied the trombone at University of the Arts in his
native Philadelphia for a year, where he formed the rock group Townhall.
Realizing the academic lifestyle wasn't for him, he left school to set out on
the road with his band. After touring, recording, and starving for over five
years, the group decided to go their separate ways in early 2006. With the
demons of rock and roll calling his name louder than ever, and a new
understanding of his own musical voice, George left his home, family, and job
at the laundromat for the bright lights of Los Angeles, to record a batch of
new tunes. Within weeks of getting to the big city, he signed a recording
contract with Epic Records. After a little shake up in early 2007, George moved
to Mercury Records and became the first artist on the revived classic label.
His debut record, 'Big Drop' was released in June 2008. Billboard magazine
called it "a promising debut from a serious talent." He has since
rejoined the ranks of independent musicians, and lives in Hollywood, CA,
recording and producing his and other artists' music. His latest release is the
5 song EP, 'Roll Away.' Available on iTunes now! $10 toward the artist, $5 glass of wine, $5 for (3) tacos July 26, 2013 - California: 6-8 pm (Friday night) Laura Wright - GH Fan Event Sportsmans Lodge and Event Center Studio City, CA Tickets: $75 + $10 for wine tasting (souvenir glass is yours to keep)
